Taekwondo Classes: What They're All About

Taekwondo is practiced a minimum of twice a week for 50-60 minutes at a time. It is a challenging physical activity combining running, endurance, stretching, punching, blocking, and most importantly: kicking. Our classes are held in a room with mat flooring intended specifically for martial arts training.

Students train in the Taekwondo uniform called a dobok and training is done in bare feet. Part of the Taekwondo uniform is a belt whose color indicates the proficiency of the student in the techniques of Taekwondo. All students start at white belt and are tested when they are ready in order to advance and obtain their next belt rank. There are nine colored belt ranks: White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Purple, Blue, Brown, Red, Black Tip, Poomdae and Black. Once passing all the colored belt ranks, the student trains and test for their black belt. Once achieving a black belt in Taekwondo, training continues at the black belt level where there are nine additional ranks called "Dans".

Each class works your entire body from head to toe and includes unique drills targeting self-defense, coordination, and cardio. You'll also receive instruction on specific Taekwondo techniques involving blocking, punching, and kicking.

The Warm-Up

Each class starts with a 15 minute warm-up which works your entire body from head to toe. An instructor will guide you and the entire class together through a series of standard and specialized exercises to ensure your body is properly prepared to perform Taekwondo techniques.

The Drills

Each Taekwondo class usually contains a 15 minute segment on a series of unique drills which changes each class. These drills are typically performed with a partner. Drills vary and may include self-defense techniques, coordination drills, and cardiovasular activity.

The Techniques

During the final 15 minutes of class, students are grouped by belt rank and paired with an instructor for their group. The instructor will teach, assist, and correct students on the specific techniques they are required to know for their next belt promotion test.

We specialize in providing a fun, challenging, and innovative program to improve the mind and body.
